  2. ◦ "Stroft", meaning strong + soft, was an advertising slogan first used for toilet paper in the late 1970s.
Northern brand bathroom tissue had "the special softness of stroft" and was available undyed or in colors.
Dixie / Northern brands were subsidiary to the American Can Company until it was bought by James River Corporation in 1982. Subsequently, “stroft” was no longer used by Northern.
Currently both Quilted Northern and competitors use the slogan “soft and strong”.
(“The name ‘stroft’ is made up of the first 3 letters of the word ‘strong’ and the last 3 letters of the word ‘soft’.”)[1]
STROFT™ is currently the registered brand name for fishing lines made by WAKU GmbH, founded in Berlin in 1983.[2]
Stroft™ has been a registered trademark for First Quality Tissue, LLC since 2022, and “stroftest”™ since 2021, used with the Panda brand.

    ◦ “Stroft” in Luxembourgish can mean “punish” or “penalty”.
