Trivia[]

  • Chuck Statler directed the one Wipeouters video.
  • Mark did not approve the cover art of the Cleopatra records reissue, he said the Wipeouters band stands on its own and is not a Devo release.
  • Mark's music production company did music for many Gabor Csupo and Arlene Klasky productions for Nickelodeon Animation Studio.
  • The Wipeouters album, recorded at Mutato Muzika, grew from Mutato completing the "Rocket Power Theme Song" for the Nickelodeon TV show "Rocket Power".
  • "The Wipeouters" are Mutato Muzika employees. Additional personnel on some tracks are Mothersbaugh and Casale family members.

Notes and References[]

We just had little bands. Bob Casale was in a band called The Wipeouters; [Bob] Mothersbaugh had a band called The Jitters; Gerry Casale was in a band called 15-60-75. I had a band called Flossy Bobbitt, which was a prog-rock, experimental music band. We all played in bands. I was actually in a band with Chrissie Hynde. Her first band that she was ever in was called Sat. Sun. Mat. It stood for Saturday, Sunday Matinee. And we played one time [laughs] – we played one gig and the band broke up. So we learned our instruments playing in bands.
There was no scene; not a good scene. All those bands that I was telling you about didn’t play original music. You couldn’t get hired playing original music – you had to play top 40 and cover tunes.

In 2001, you and your brother along with Mark Mothersbaugh reunited under the name the Wipeouters for a one-off surf release, 'P Twaaang.' If I had a signed copy of this recording and put it up on Ebay, would I at least be able to make a mortgage payment if it sold?!
"Actually I was not invited to be part of that project. I wrote and sang lyrics for a number of the instrumentals on that CD under the misconception that they were to be songs for a children's TV show. I only found out about the CD after it was released.
My favorite lyrics I wrote were for a psychedelic surf song I called "Hang Ten" using all Aussie agro surfer slang. Mark never used any of them except the lyrics for "Luna Goona Park" which I wrote and sang to honor my Labrador Retriever, Luna, who was murdered by a pyscho when she was 13 years old.
